After watching a frustrating French open final i am not in mood to do anything. This is my way to vent the frustration. World number 1 in tennis losing in straight sets, scoring only 4 points in 3 sets, can’t annoy a tennis fan more. Was Federer outplayed by Nadal?
Of course not. One of the worst games Federer has played in years got Nadal his 4th title at Roland Garros. Roland Garros happens to be a French aviator, a trivia i was pleased to know than watch the abysmal performance by one of the greatest players in the history of tennis. Coming from a good match against the frenchman Gael Monfils, least i was expecting from Federer was give a stiff competition to the clay court champ. I knew it was too much to expect Federer to trash Nadal on clay. I was hoping to see a competitive match stretching to 4 sets, or at least a tie-breaker! All in vain.
I would be happy if Federer lost to unstoppable Nadal, but not when he lost to unforced errors. 35 unforced errors, crashing an aggressive forehand to the net or hitting it meters out of the box, like a rookie. Federer’s game annoyed me as much as the praise for Nadal by the commentators. Those morons were talking about how Nadal has ‘dominated’ the match. I could only see a few good passing shots by Nadal when Fed half-heartedly came to the net, and there was no signs of domination as Federer was literally throwing away the match with his unforced errors and poor conversion of 2nd serve to winning points. The commentators also started talking how amazing Nadal would be even on grass as he displayed supposedly some outstanding stuff last year in Wimbledon. I hope he gets trashed somewhere in 1st or 2nd round this year.
At one point in the 3rd set, i got so annoyed that i even started watching some crap talk by the Bachans and Ram Gopal Verma on a news channel! An average game by Nadal was enough to beat the off shine, under confident underdog Roger Federer. The only thing that made me smile this evening was the fast recap of this year’s tournament in the end, which showed the gorgeous Maria Sharapova for a moment. :)
Having seen the genius of Roger Federer trashing best of the players like Safin and Roddick, it is disheartening to see him underperform and perish. Watching the King of tennis, who as i have seen shoot a winner even when on a wrong foot, to lose to an average game displayed by Nadal was sheer disappointment.
Federer needs to believe in himself and his abilities. He has to believe than he can beat, if not easily, Nadal on clay. He is world no. 1 for over four consecutive years for a reason, and that is because he is superior to the world no. 2, Rafael Nadal. I hope to see the genius display his abilities in full extravagance at the mecca of tennis, Wimbledon, which i truly believe is ‘The Grand Slam’. Watch out for Maria and FedEx sizzling on grass. :)

I think that Roger already lost to Rafa the moment Rafa beat Nole in the semi-finals. As much as he tried to be confident about his chances, I think he’s not gotten past what happened in Monte Carlo and Hamburg where he had breaks against Nadal but still lost in straight sets (if I recall).
@San – It was indeed a bad match only coz’ Roger gave away the match in straight sets! I had also anticipated that Nadal would win the title – clay court master! (hoping Roger would thrash him with his cross-court backhands)
Watch out for wimbledon – its going to be Roger all the way!
:D
Maria on grass or Maria on court – doesnt matter to me :D I accept her as she comes :D :P
Only if Fed had rasied his own game,would Nadal have gone a notch up higher,and the result would have been pretty much the same.So the comments of Nadal playing an “average game” does not make sense.(it’s relative)
Fed wouldnt have played well due to “n” number of reasons,but common, give the spaniard some credit here for all the “n” reasons which makes him come back again and again to rule the clay court.(even though some do not consider it as ..a what..”true grandslam”).
@Saif
I definitely agree that Nadal is very good.. of course he’s the best on clay.. i’m not taking anything away from him.. all i am saying is Nadal didn’t demolish Fed.. Fed destroyed himself…. he didn’t give a chance for Nadal to make an error, Fed would do it before Nadal!
@RJ
yay.. same here :)
@Jem
Fed has to believe he can win.. i don’t see that happening.. unlike Djokovic.. who tried his best.. but ya in that match Nadal played well to win..
yes …i agree that there were too many unforced errors on Fed’s part…his net game was aweful..but it happens…..
cant wait for 2 weeks to pass by…i still agree with a remark by VJ that “there is greater chance of Nadal winning the Wimbledon before FedEx wins the Roland Garros”…go for it …
Hmm ya.. we’ve to wait and watch..
they might not win at all.. watch out for joker :)
Hmm wish I could comment but no interest whatsoever in tennis. :D
That’s no problem Reema , your visit means more than comment ;)
i loooooove nadal :) he is king on clay ,but he always disappoints in the wimbledon :( never too happy with that..
and i agree the]is year’s french open final ,fedex made too many mistakes,he knew that volleys with nadal r highly tricky and took too many close net shots which proved extremely expensive ! disappointing fight but i was sooooo happy since Spaniard rafa won again !
infact even the women’s final wasnt all that great ,in my opinion..
Tennis???
Clueless…
Federer looks great tho!
@megs – :X

Yup, you don’t like the Super Nova thing? :-)
@San – Moderate comments!!!! HUH! As Megs said, we are the loyalestestest commenters here! Did she say commentators? :P

@Megs – OK, I am gonna try again! Who is cheeky??? :D :P
miss-know-it-all
i dunno !
@Megs – *how rude can somebody get!!!!!!!!*
I share your frustration concrening Federer’s display as it was abysmal.
I think you’re being overly harsh on Nadal – I agree that Nadal did not have to do so much as Federer’s haphazard gameplan helped a great deal – as he was better on the day and I would say the outstanding performer over the two weeks .
Going back to Federer’s gameplan, I don’t neccessarily feel that the approach was wrong, just that it was extremely risky as Nadal loves a target and, in addition, executed badly; maybe Federer should have tried to slug it out from the baseline in the 3rd set.
I have had time to calm down as I was depressed and utterly disenchanted by the performance, which upset and hurt me as the scale of the defeat (1,3 and love).
I agree with you totally that Djokovic should not be written off at all for Wimbledon (I would place him as 2nd fav. behind Federer and ahead of Nadal) – I still feel he lost last year’s semi-final due to the blisters which restricted his movement in the 2nd and 3rd sets.
I read a headline which said Nadal should be considered the greatest as he beat Federer so many times.
Well, that’s bunkum and here’s why:
1. Nadal does not have 12 Grand Slams
2. Nadal has won no GSs other than on clay
3. Nadal has been extremely inconsistent on other surfaces (before the clay season he had not won a title since the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart [clay].
4. Nadal has not reached even the semi-final of the US Open and Federer has won it 4 times in succession
5. For all the talk of the head-to-head, TEN of the 17 meetings have been on clay – which tells me Federer is consistent in reaching these finals continually and that Nadal is not doing the business at all on hard courts. So, it can be safely concluded that the head-to-head is no reliable gauge of Nadal being better than Federer and, in fairness to Nadal(and it is easy to fair as he is a ncie guy), he has said as much.
6. On grass, Federer leads 2-0 (I wish there were more grass tournaments and there really should be a masters Series tournament on grass) and on hard courts, 3-2.
But, Nadal has won Roland Garros and whilst I have great faith in Federer, I don’t think Federer can win it whilst Nadal is there.
Another point, I’ll tell you what made me seethe with anger was some of the stupid ‘journalism’ and the sheer garbage written.
Daily Telegraph ‘journalist’ Oliver Brown (I want to make an example of him as he angered me the most!) stated that Federer lost his ‘cool’ when quizzed on whether he would prefer to win RG or Wimbledon if a fairy (for God’s sake!!) came up to him and asked him.
He actuallyreplied it was a stupid question (which it is as fairies don’t exist anyway!).
I watched the whole interview, it was at the tail end of a rather tedious post-match interview and Federer’s behaviour was exemplary and he did not once lose his cool.
He also dared to say that Federer interviews are vacuous, which is untrue. It is fair to say that Federer accentuates the positive and never really has a downer on himself – I suspect much to the chagrin of foolish journalists like Mr. Brwon and Mike Dickson (Daily Mail columnist who also irritates me!)
Brown’s hatred was obvious as he would like to see Federer crack and it hasn’t happened, he has decided to lie!
He is an absolute disgrace to the gutter press and I would like to know why the editor allowed that diatribe to go to press!
Rant over!
@Jamal A
That was quite an well addressed rant! :)
Ya, as a federer fan i totally agree with you.
Federer :(( *giving furious looks to Nadal*
hey :) nadal proved he CAN RULE on grass too :)
out comes the champagne guys :P
